Free Sulphites Allergy Restaurant Card
Dried fruit, wine, beer, processed meat — sulphites hide in plain sight.
Communicating an allergy without ambiguity.
Sulphites (sulphur dioxide and sulphite preservatives) trigger reactions ranging from asthma-like symptoms to severe allergic responses, especially in people with asthma. Sulphites appear in dried fruit, wine, beer, cider, processed meats, and many pre-prepared salads and sauces. UK FSA labelling rules require disclosure above 10 mg/kg.
A FeedMeSafe QR card asks the kitchen to flag sulphite-preserved ingredients, in their own language, with the standard strict cross-contamination protocol.
Common questions, answered.
When are sulphites required to be labelled?
Under UK FSA rules, foods containing more than 10 mg/kg of sulphur dioxide or sulphites must declare them. Below that threshold, labelling is voluntary — so verbal confirmation matters.
Does the card cover sulphites in wine?
Yes — wine is one of the most common sulphite sources. Mention wine specifically in the notes box if you want the kitchen to flag any wine-based sauces or reductions too.
